According to MountainMath Software there were still thousands of short-term rentals in Vancouver operating without a licence leading up to the city’s deadline.

Jens von Bergmann runs MountainMath Software, a data modelling and visualization company. Last week he scraped data from Airbnb and found nearly half of the 4,690 listings didn’t include a newly required licence number.

The city’s short-term rental policy took effect on April 19th but the city gave hosts until the end of day on August 31st to get a licence and include it in their listing.

The City of Vancouver refused to comment to the Vancouver Sun on von Bergmann’s numbers, but said it will provide an update next week on the short-term rentals program when it has the complete, post-deadline data.

SPECIAL OFFER: Kitsilano.ca will take a slightly different angle choosing instead to highlight licensed Airbnb properties in the neighbourhood on our highly trafficked VISIT directory.

So, if you’re a law-abiding Airbnb host with a great short-term rental in Kitsilano, get in touch.
