Double-digit temperatures equals shorts and t-shirts, and that means getting out of your cooler slumber body and into a hotter slimmer body.

Try one of these three alternative gym classes in our Kitsilano neighbourhood to work up some awesome sweat and get into shape fast.

CrossFit Kitsilano

The idea behind CrossFit exercise classes is to offer a full-body, high-intensity workout that combines cardio, gymnastics, strength training, and core training in a constantly changing routine. Classes are generally about an hour long and include the use of barbells, kettlebells, pull-up bars, boxes, and other tools rather than treadmills and other large machines. Exercises typically include squats, push-ups, pull-ups, lifting weights, and running. At CrossFit Kitsilano, there are group classes for all fitness levels and personal training sessions are available as well. Book a free intro class to see if this type of workout suits your needs.

Pure Barre

Pure Barre is also a total body workout but it specifically focuses on your glutes, thighs, abs, and arms using small, isometric movements with a low-impact technique. Each strength section of the workout is followed by a stretching section in order to create long, lean muscles without bulk. And it’s all done to meditative music with minimal equipment. Pure Barre in Kitsilano is currently offering the 1st month for $99 with unlimited classes.

Tactical Personal Protection

Get into shape and learn effective self-defence simultaneously by learning the art of fighting systems Krav Maga and Kali.  Krav Maga is the official combat fighting system of the Israeli Military, while Kali is used for the Philippine Military. At TPP the focus is on three main areas while using these systems – getting into shape quickly and efficiently; learning how to use your body as a defence weapon; and learning to safely wield and protect yourself from weapons such as knives, swords, guns, and baseball bats. Classes are held at Ron Zalko Fitness Monday through Thursday, and Saturday.
