We’re almost mid-way through April. Let’s hope Spring decides to catch up with us a bit. Here’s what’s on in our Kitsilano neighbourhood this weekend, no matter what the weather.

Friday, April 13th

Nothing too spooky today, considering it’s Friday, the 13th. Instead, the Museum of Vancouver is offering another tour of their excellent current exhibit, Haida Now, tonight from 7pm till 8:30pm. This intimate and conversational tour is led by Haida guest curator Kwiaahwah Jones, and features more than 450 works of Haida art created by talented carvers, weavers, photographers, and printmakers. Tickets are $29 per person and advanced purchasing is advised since there are only a limited amount of spots available.

Saturday, April 14th

Expensive, and sold out already anyway, the Vancouver 2018 TED Conference, The Age of Amazement, will be screened live and for free from the 10th till the 14th from various locations including the Kitsilano Branch of the Vancouver Public Library. Catch it today from 9am till 11:30am. Topics of the conference will include AI technology, the future of politics, and scientific progress.

Sunday, April 15th

It’s the third Sunday of the month so that means it’s St. Roch Sundays at the Vancouver Maritime Museum. Specially guided tours of a unique part of the museum not normally open to the public are on today, from 12:30pm till 4:30pm, every half hour. Take this opportunity to check out the engine room and main hold of the RCMP Arctic Schooner St Roch and ask away any questions you might have.

Afterwards, have a look at the museum’s latest exhibit, the SS Princess Sophia Exhibition, which just opened on March 31st and is on until May 6th. This exhibit commemorates the 100th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the Princess Sophia, in which everyone on board (more than 350 souls) lost their lives.
