West Broadway’s Hollywood Theatre is 82 years old.

After much controversy over its possible demolition, it appears the art deco theatre finally has a new lease on its life.

A development application has been submitted to the City of Vancouver to redevelop 3133 West Broadway, the property immediately west of the theatre building, into a new six-storey building with mixed-use purposes.

The Save the Hollywood Theatre Coalition has been working tirelessly to ensure that the theatre remains as a cultural space, and it appears this proposal may be the answer.

The development will allow for the restoration of the theatre into a state-of-the-art, renovated performing arts centre.

The new condominium building will include six studios, 32 one-bedroom units, 16 two-bedroom units and five three-bedroom units. There will also be retail units at grade, and two levels of underground parking.

An Open House on the project is scheduled for March 15, 2018 at the St. James Community Centre Hall, from 4:30pm – 7:30pm.

Written comments on this development application can be sent by letter or email on or before April 16th to be considered in the staff review.
