The rose is red, the violet’s blue, the honey’s sweet, and so are you.
Thou art my love and I am thine; I drew thee to my Valentine: The lot was cast and then I drew, and Fortune said it should be you.” Joseph Ritson (1784)

This Wednesday, February 14th, it is Valentines’ Day. Here’s our list of ideas to fill the day with some heat.

Activities

Start the day off with something hot, sweet, and savoury from Au Comptoir, Linh Cafe, Thomas Haas, or Aphrodite’s.

Wander over to the Kitsilano Library Branch and peruse the old travel guides in the adult non-fiction section. Dream big and commit to buying the latest edition for your future trip at Wanderlust or the Travel Bug.

Book a couple’s sauna at Halsa, watch a movie matinee at Fifth Avenue Cinemas, go ice skating at the Kitsilano Community Centre, or take a hot yoga class together at Moksha Yoga.

Romantic Restaurants

For dinner, Kitsilano has a wide range of cozy, low-lit eateries, from fine to fun. Some of our favourites are Baru Latino, La Quercia, Rajio, Nuba, East is East, Burgoo, Novo, and the Oakwood.

Chic Cocktails

Cap off the night with a cocktail at Mission, The Ellis, AnnaLena or Cacao.

Gifts

Sometime during the day (or night) offer your valentine (or yourself if you’re solo) a box of chocolates from Chocolate Arts, a bottle of sparkling rose or dessert wine from the Kitsilano Wine Cellar, and/or a gorgeous bouquet of flowers from Mayhew-Sherwood Florist.
