It’s a rather busy weekend coming up, with lectures, musical entertainment, sports activities, and more all happening in Kitsilano. And, it’s a holiday on Monday – Family Day in BC. Have a good one!

Thursday, February 8th

Banyen Books and Sound is hosting author Ya’Acov Darling Khan from 6:30-8pm for this free lecture. Khan’s book, Jaguar in the Body, Butterfly in the Heart will explore the world of the shaman, including medicine dance.

Also tonight, the neighbourhood pub Regal Beagle will have guitarist Robb Hill on stage for a fun night of sing-alongs, cover songs from the 1960s to today, and his own originals. Show starts at 8pm, no cover.

Friday, February 9th

Play a game of evening badminton at the Kitsilano Community Centre from 9pm till 10:45pm. All levels are welcome, but you’ll need to bring your own racquet. Drop-in fee is just $5.71 per person. This is an ongoing class that runs until February 22nd.

Saturday, February 10th

Ever fancied becoming a yoga teacher? Join Semperviva‘s staff for a Free Yoga Teacher Training Class at their Semperviva Yoga Kits Beach Studio. It’s from 1:30 till 4pm. You’ll practice basic asanas (postures), pranayamas (breathing techniques), meditation, and other key components to becoming a certified teacher.

The Vancouver Academy of Music in Vanier Park has a wine, snacks, and concert night tonight from 7:30pm till 9:30pm. Tickets range from $20 to $30 per person. The concert will feature a debut of a unique ensemble called MACh III – a trio consiting of a soprano, bassoonist, and pianist.

Sunday, February 11th

Let the kids have fun at the normally draconian Museum of Anthropology at UBC today, from 12pm till 5pm. The Kids Takeover UBC at MOA day will feature art activities, live dancing, live music, and more.

Monday, February 12th (Family Day in BC – statutory holiday)

The Billy Bishop Legion in Kits Point is showing an art installation by artists Irwin Oostindie and Inessa Baustad Oostindie called Van Kijkduinstraat – a multi-faceted exhibition of stories of liberation, courage, and sacrifice of the Canadian Military forces. The exhibit is on until the 17th with tonight being the opening reception beginning at 7pm.
