Believe it or not, in amongst the fine dining and award-winning bistros in our Kitsilano neighbourhood there are still a number of budget-friendly places to have a meal.

Here are our recommendations for breakfast, lunch, and dinner options that are easy on the palate and wallet.

Breakfast

Serving breakfast every day starting at 6am, local institution The Naam has a Naam Special Breakfast that’s sure to satisfy with two eggs any style, two whole-wheat pancakes, a choice of veggie meat, and homefries all for just $11.75. And their Basic Breakfast includes two eggs any style, toast, jam, and tea or coffee for only $7.95

Lunch

It’s no secret that Al Basha, with its simple but filling Levant-inspired menu has some of the best hot lunch prices around. Their Falafel Wrap is just $6.50 and is stuffed with three fried chickpea patties, house-made hummus, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, all topped with creamy tahini sauce and served in a warm pita bread. The Lamb Donair version is $7.60, or make any wrap or donair a full meal for a few dollars more and you’ll get a salad, additional pita bread, and a side of extra hummus. Lucky for us we have two of Al Basha’s locations – one on West Broadway and one on Cornwall Avenue.

For a quick but gourmet and healthy sandwich, soup or stew, Tractor never disappoints, and all three of those lunch choices are under $10. The savoury soups are $6 and are usually vegetarian. The hearty stews are $8 and often feature happy chicken, pork, or beef. The $9.50 full-size sandwiches include choices such as grilled chicken, roasted turkey, or veggie.

Dinner

Want a hot dinner for under $10? Thai Basil has loads of curry, noodle, and rice dishes, with meat or vegetarian options for well under $10. Each entree is served with rice, salad, and a spring roll.

Whole Foods‘ Burrito Bar gives you the option of choosing your own 1 pound burrito for $10. Choices include chicken, beef, pork, or sauteed vegetables, plus all the burrito toppings such as shredded cheese, salsa, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, and more. Make it a burrito bowl if you don’t want the wheat tortilla wrap.
