Have you had your pumpkin-flavoured latte fix yet? Or how about pumpkin pie-flavoured ice cream or pumpkin beer? Here’s our list of all things pumpkin and where to get them in Kitsilano before this wonderful but seasonal flavour vanishes.

Drinks

Let’s start with everyone’s fall favourite, the pumpkin-flavoured latte, available at most cafes in the neighbourhood but cool Olive + Ruby on West Broadway does it extra well. Their Pumpkin Spice Latte easily resembles a bite of that home-made pumpkin pie with hints of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. They also do a gorgeous savoury tart with sliced eggplant, zucchini, and sweet potato, served on a bed of pumpkin.

Looking for something with a little more kick? Try the seasonal Chocolate Pumpkin Porter – Lost Souls – from Parallel 49 Brewing, now available at Darby’s on Macdonald Street. All treat and no trick, this rich, robust beer uses large amounts of chocolate malt, real pumpkin, and traditional pumpkin pie spices.

Treats

Ah yes, the 49th Parallel Coffee cafe on West 4th Avenue has the annual Lucky’s Doughnuts Pumpkin Cheesecake Bismarck – with a pumpkin pastry cream and a zesty cheesecake topping, all sprinkled with pumpkin spice.

For something more extravagant, try the Pumpkin Cake from Thomas Haas on West Broadway, with layers of pumpkin crémeux, amaretto bavarois, crunchy caramelized pumpkin seed croquant, and a roasted pumpkin mousse. If you’re after something less oh là là but still fabulous, try their Pumpkin Pie with Caramelized Apple or their Classic Pumpkin Pie, both topped with cinnamon chantilly cream and nestled in a butter crust.

For a quick fix treat, head to one of these ice cream parlours in Kitsilano – Rain or Shine Ice Cream on West 4th Avenue with their Baked Apple ice cream (no, it’s not pumpkin but it’s so worth a mention and a great fall flavour). La Glace on West 16th Avenue with their Peppered Pumpkin ice cream, accented with cracked black pepper and cinnamon, and topped with a gluten-free pumpkin spice meringue. And last but not least, Tangram Creamery on Arbutus Street, with their Jack ‘O Lantern ice cream, made with rum raisins and kabocha squash (Japanese pumpkin). And have you tried their Frozen S’mores yet? Oh my.
