Kits Pool is getting some well-deserved maintenance thanks to the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.

Joyce Murray, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Quadra, made the announcement yesterday during a visit to the 9th Annual KidSport Vancouver Swimathon that was held at the pool.

Kits Pool will receive structural and mechanical improvements, supported by the Government of Canada’s CIP 150 investment of $500,000.

The funding will be used to replace the existing pool membrane, cantilevered gutters, gutter joints, and pool deck control joints. A new electrical circuit will also be installed to accommodate electrical pumps that are necessary to replenish pool seawater.

The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program is part of Canada 150 Celebrates, the Government of Canada’s celebration of our country’s 150th anniversary of Confederation.

“We want to thank our partners for their contribution to the Kitsilano Pool rehabilitation project,  which will deliver a cleaner, greener and better salt-water swimming experience in this iconic seaside pool. When completed, the project will result in a significant reduction in greenhouse gases and in the potable water currently needed to maintain the pool level,” said Michael Wiebe, Chair, Vancouver Park Board.
