Nusa coffee opened a couple of weeks ago and when we popped in on opening day it was relatively quiet.

Fast forward one week and every single Indonesian person in Vancouver appeared to have wedged themselves into this fun but rough around the edges Indonesian themed café in the West 4th and McDonald area. This must be a good sign if you like food and coffee from that side of the planet!

At $1 a cup, the drip coffee is arguably the cheapest in the city, but don’t expect gourmet, third wave, specialty man bun style delicacy brews. Instead expect a punch in the jaw of strength with a good sturdy caffeine follow-up slap. Their coffee is not for the feint of heart or the light of palate. Food options are typical café style sweets with a few Indonesian items thrown in for good measure.

Vancouver Coffee Snob Recommendation: Fire up your engine with one of the cheapest pour overs in the city ($3), using one of their single origin Indonesian beans. Fill your face hole with leaf wrapped rice thingies and the Indonesian samosas… or cookies if you’re boring. Take a tray of $1 coffees to work when you leave, solidifying yourself as the thriftiest of office heroes.

Thank you for your review! I like your description about lemper/leaf wrapped rice – the Indonesian savoury snack 🙂
Please let me know whenever you drop by. Cheers!
