Heritage homeowners in Vancouver can now get some extra cash to help with renovations.

For the next two years, the Vancouver Heritage Foundation (VHF) is offering energy retrofitting grants up to $6,000 to help heritage homeowners reduce their carbon footprint.

The Heritage Energy Retrofit Grant is designed to assist with energy retrofits and water efficiency measures that will improve comfort and reduce energy consumption, water use, and running costs in ways compatible with the conservation of heritage fabric and character elements.

VHF also administers the True Colours Grant which assists in repainting heritage buildings and the House Call Grant which helps guide the long-term maintenance and repair of a heritage building.

Homeowners can now apply for the Heritage Energy Retrofit Grants to help them make the switch from oil and gas to electric heating, install high-efficiency toilets, or improve their home’s insulation.

VHF launched the Heritage Energy Retrofit Grant program in the summer of 2015 in partnership with the City of Vancouver’s Sustainability Group.
