Greek Day on Broadway. It’s one heck of a party and it’s been taking place in Kitsilano, the core of the Vancouver Greek community, since 1974.

This year Greek Day falls on Sunday, June 26 from 11am to 9pm. The party attracts over 100,000 participants and closes traffic on Broadway from MacDonald to Blenheim.

The Greek Day festivities are free, lively, heartfelt, joyful and crowded. The food, which deserves its own sentence, is delicious.

Deliciousness such as souvlaki (meat skewers), spanikopita (spinach and cheese pastry), keftethes (meatballs), tzatziki (yogurt, cucumber and garlic sauce),  honeyed loukoumades (doughnuts) are not free, but they’re worth it. As always, you can expect cultural displays, live music, group dancing, shouts of “Opa!”, and a thoroughly entertaining and educational Family Zone.
