On March 9 Kitsilano’s Rocky Mountain Flatbread celebrated the magic of mushrooms in the first of a series of monthly Long Table events. The Eat, Grow, Love Local themed events, along with a striking new renovation, bring a breath of fresh air to this long established, family-friendly restaurant.

These new communal long table dinners are chance to come together with friends, old and new, to enjoy seasonal dishes paired with mouth-watering craft beers from local BC breweries. The sense of community builds as diners pass the family style platters of food around for everyone to feast from. The proceeds go to RMF’s school gardening program.

Guests were treated to a four-course sampling of Rocky Mountain Flatbread’s new seasonal menu items including Wild Mushroom Bruschetta, Wild Mushroom Artisan Pizza, Rotini with Creamy Mushroom Ragout, and Rocky Mountain’s renowned warm chocolate brownies. Each dish was paired with beer tastings from Perspephone, Hoyne, Phillips, and Steamworks breweries.

In addition, there was a cooking demonstration and guests learned first-hand how to make local BC Mushroom Ragout. You can find the recipe on Rocky Mountain’s blog. A registered dietitian was on-hand and shared the health benefits of eating mushrooms and guests had a chance to mingle with a local mushroom purveyor.

100% of the proceeds from these events will go to EarthBites, Rocky Mountain Flatbread’s school gardening program where students learn to grow their own food, create nutritional snacks, and craft with the seasons.

If you’re looking for a seasonal and fun food experience, stay tuned for the next Long Table event.
