New restaurants in Kitsilano crop up all the time, though some are worth checking out sooner than others. We’ve chosen 3 that we think you should make time for, with one already open (Ramen Danbo), one possibly opening this weekend (Mission), and a third opening within a few weeks (Supermarine). Enjoy.

3 New Restaurants in Kitsilano to Check Out

1. Ramen Danbo
Just open since the beginning of May, Ramen Danbo is the third Japanese restaurant that has occupied the tiny space at 1833 West 4th Avenue over the last few years or so. First it was izakaya, then it was sushi, now it’s the ever-popular ramen being served – let’s hope it stays for a while. Danbo is a chain in Japan that specializes in Fukuoka-style ramen, essentially traditional Japanese wheat noodles which are thin and firm, served in a hot pork bone broth (tonkotsu) and topped with sliced pork, green onions, and sometimes soft-boiled egg, seaweed, and a few other add-ons. Ask for extra noodles (kaedama) if you want a full meal here but remember the broth alone is rich and filling.

2. Mission
Opening soon in the former August Jack location at 2042 West 4th Avenue, this new farm-to-table-plus-cocktails spot called Mission has been created by Chase Macleod (ex-GM at Fable) and Curtis Luk (ex-Chef at The Parker). With a possible soft launch slated for this weekend, be sure to check it out for their seasonal BC sourced menu items with thoughtful wine pairings. Bonus – they will have late opening hours (until 1am) so head on over after your late shift for some new bites.

3. Supermarine
The restaurateurs behind award-winning Wildebeest and Bufala are opening up Supermarine, a seafood joint, within a few weeks at 1685 Yew Street, where Abigail’s Party used to be. Expect top-notch fare without the high brow atmosphere, some serious cocktails both new and classic, and just for the fun of it – slushies. The patio should be wonderful this summer and if they decide to do brunch it will be more than welcomed.
