Kitsilano has some of the best brunch spots in the city – and recently, the neighbourhood welcomed another local gem: popular breakfast diner Deacon’s Corner.

The original Vancouver shop is on Main and Alexander. The Kitsilano location sits on Broadway and Trutch, in the old Shack location.

With very fair prices and large plates, Deacon’s serves up Southern style comfort food, all-day breakfast, and prides itself of being the “home of the hangover breakfast”.

Inspired by the original Deacon’s Corner on the Trans Canada Highway outside of Winnipeg, Deacon’s has kept true to the truck stop diner’s original mission: serve hearty house made food and generous portions.

The all-day breakfast menu includes everything from Carolina pulled pork and pancakes, to classic bennys and scrambles. Deacon’s also has separate lunch and dinner menus. Some notable specials include homemade pies and southern friend chicken buckets.

Take a peek at the Kitsilano menus here.

We had brunch there the other weekend. The place was empty except for a family of four. Service was friendly and ok. The menu was very creative and interesting.I ordered the Kitsilano Breakfast and I was very disappointed. The scrambled eggs were overlooked and very dry. The cornbread tasted stale and hard like cardboard. Overall, the dish tasted like it was prepared the night before. My husband had the pancakes and they looked humongous and impressive. They were however very dry.

I wish Deacon’s would try harder. They have the potential to rival Sunshine Diner, if only the cook would take his job seriously.

Have also been here, twice, but not likely to go back. First time I was all but ignored by staff, nobody asked how my meal was or if I needed anything, even though there were only a couple of tables of diners. Food (pulled pork sandwich) was okay but nothing special and I would not order again. Second time there were three of us and, again, food was okay but not hot and not worth another visit. Service was much improved this time but that could have been because the owner was onsite with his eye on what was happening in the place. Won’t go again, just not good enough.
