One week left till Christmas. You’re not getting a chance to catch up on your Philips Snowcase Advent Calendar. Those items on your family’s wish lists are not even half crossed off. And people’s road rage is increasing at an alarming rate. Christmas is feeling a little bit bah humbug. Try one of these 4 ways to get into the Christmas spirit, and remember the wise words of Dr. Seuss, “What if Christmas…doesn’t come from a store? What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!

4 Ways to Get Into the Christmas Spirit in Kits

1. Bake something
Stop the manic shopping for a moment and take some time at home to bake something sweet for a friend. Pick up your ingredients at Greens Market on West Broadway and have a go at baking (and decorating) fun gingerbread people, try the great-looking chocolava cookies, or make easy sugar cookies anyone will love. Put them in a pretty tin, give them to a neighbour or a friend, and feel good about having made something delicious (or attempted to).

2. Walk among the twinkling lights
Grab a hot chocolate from your favourite Kits coffee shop and head outside after 5pm to enjoy the efforts of your neighbours. Some of Kitsilano’s best Christmas light displays can be found all along West 7th Avenue, West 12th Avenue, Cypress Street, and Blenheim Street.

3. Try a seasonal-flavoured treat
A few to choose from: Sugar Plum Forest rooibos tea from David’s Tea, Mulled Wine sorbet from Rain or Shine, Mint hot chocolate from Culprit Coffee,  and Gingerbread donuts from Lucky’s Doughnuts.

4. Watch your favourite version of A Christmas Carol
Get cozy on the couch and find your favourite on Netflix or rent a video from Limelight Video on Alma Street. Our picks: The Muppet Christmas Carol, Scrooged, and A Christmas Carol (1984 version).
