Where to Get a Milkshake in Kitsilano

Milkshakes

Cold, sweet and creamy, milkshakes evoke childhood. There’s something about summer that makes us it okay for grown-ups to indulge too. Here’s where to get a milkshake in Kits, while you can still get away with it.

Where to Get a Milkshake in Kitsilano

1. Sophie’s Cosmic Cafe

We love it all year round for diner fare and the fact that there’s real art (find the Fred Herzog!) mixed in with the kitsch covering the walls. When it comes to the art of the milkshake, you can bet they know their stuff. Expect oversized portions, the overflow served on the side in a chrome mixing cup, with real ice cream in flavours such as coconut, almond and espresso. They also have the classic triumvirate: choc, strawberry and vanilla. Add booze for just $3 more.

2. Rain or Shine Ice Cream

This is not your classic milkshake experience. Expect experimental, well-executed flavours like earl grey lavender and chocolate-coffee-toffee adorned with real whipped cream and the equally creative topping of your choice.

3. Moderne Burger

Moderne serves the full retro beverage smorgasbord including shakes, floats, malts and cream sodas in fun flavours like creamsicle, mocha and chocolate-covered cherry.

4. Dairy Queen

Technically, they’re called blizzards and, according to our eighth grade chemistry teacher, if a spoon stands up straight in them, they’re not a liquid. But with those salient facts aside, we’re making an exception for blizzards because they defy categorization and they have an extra wow-factor kinda like what happens when you put bacon on a doughnut. In flavours like peanut butter cup pie and double fudge cookie dough, this will sate your sugar + fat craving for the long haul.

Sunshine Diner has lots of great flavors and let’s you mix and match.

Last time I was there I had chocolate peanut butter banana.

Plus their food is better than at least 3 of the other options here.
