Summer Kitsilano is packed with events and we don’t want you to miss out on any of the action. Without further ado, here are 6 fun things to do this weekend in Kits:

What To Do in Kits This Weekend

1. Khatsahlano Street Party: Saturday
It’s high summer and this is the pinnacle event of the season. The deets: 10 city blocks on West 4th from Burrard to MacDonald. 50 bands giving free shows– genuinely good bands. 8 stages. 40 food trucks. 3 beer gardens. A family zone with family programming. Edgy art shows. 100+ artisan vendors. Don’t miss out. Even if we won’t miss typing Khatsahlano over and over.

2. Kitsilano Showboat: Friday & Saturday
The old girl is glorying in her 79th season. Offering free, live entertainment every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 7pm until August 16, the Showboat is a beloved staple of Kitsilano summers.

3. FIFA World Cup viewing: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Futbol mania is soon over. The World Cup final goes down this Sunday.  A few Kitsilano venues are showing the World Cup and as the action heats up, it’s way more fun to yell in a crowd. Darby’s Public House (2001 Macdonald) is open for all the 9:00am World Cup games and will be offering $5.50 20oz pints and brunch. Expect big crowds and a rowdy atmosphere. No tickets or reservations needed.

4. Exhibit “Babes & Bathers – History of the Swimsuit” at Vancouver Maritime Museum: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
This is an exhibit on swimwear. What could be more pertinent in July in a beach  neighbourhood? As a city surrounded by water, going to the beach and owning a swimsuit is an essential part of both our wardrobe and our Vancouver identity. Drawing primarily on the collections of fashion historian Ivan Sayers, the Maritime Museum will display examples of swimwear worn in Vancouver from the 1890s to the 1980s. From swimming costumes to bikinis, bathing suits styles have fluctuated from the modest to the more revealing, all in a desire to make us fashionable by the water’s edge.

5. Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool.” William Shakespeare. Ah, how true the words of Shakespeare. Enjoy more of this 16th century playwright, poet, and actor’s work at Kitsilano’s Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival set in Vanier Park.  The season runs from June 11 to September 20 this year and plays include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest, Equivocation, and Cymbeline. Times vary from afternoons to evenings for most days. Tickets start at about $35/person per play.

6. Kitsilano Farmers Market: Sunday
Meet your makers and get your mitts on some pretty produce. The Kitsilano Farmers Market runs every Sunday from 10am-2pm until October 19. Located in the parking lot of the Kitsilano Community Centre at 2690 Larch Street, the Farmers Market provides a wonderful opportunity to buy and eat locally grown, raised, crafted, baked, and harvested food. Find everything from Cawston-grown organic apples to Maple Ridge beeswax candles and wild BC morel mushrooms. With over 50 vendors each week, you may not get a chance to meet every one of them so we’ve picked 4 that you won’t want to pass by.
