This Sunday, June 15, is Father’s Day. Besides giving dad breakfast in bed, some lazy time on the couch, and a pair of new socks, try one of these 5 gift ideas. From food to drink, and experiences too, he’ll appreciate these gifts not just on Father’s Day!

5 Gift Ideas for Father’s Day

1. Beach Barbeque
As we discussed in our post about BBQ essentials here, bring your portable gear (or dad’s) to Kits Beach and let dad relax in the sand, drink and burger in hand. Bring fold-up chairs, a parasol, toys for the kids, and enjoy the view.

2. Bar Brunch
While dad may appreciate the thought that counts in trying to make him breakfast in bed (burnt toast and all), make it easy on the whole family and go out for brunch. Dad-friendly bars like Kitsilano’s Browns Socialhouse, The Kings Head, and The August Jack all do good morning fare.

3. Growler Gulp
Bring dad over to Brassneck Brewery for a beer tasting. Then let him pick out his favourite one to bring home in his very own refillable growler. Choose from such beers as Joe’s Barn Saison Inertia Impy Stout to Passive Aggressive Brassneck Ale Klutz Kolsch or the Ten Times Ten APA. While the brewery doesn’t offer food (other than some tasty pepperoni), there’s usually a pizza truck parked outside to pair nicely with those hops.

4. Nooner at the Nat
What dad wouldn’t enjoy a sunny day spent sitting on the bleachers with a hot dog & drink, watching a ball game? Ok, so it’s not the Red Sox at Fenway, but the Canadiens are entertaining to watch, as are the sushi race shows during the seventh-inning stretch. Plus the Nat Bailey Stadium is family-friendly with a kids play area that includes a bouncy castle and a batting cage. Catch a Nooner at the Nat on Fridays, Sundays, and some other days each month. Check the Canadiens schedule here.

5. Tank Therapy
Give dad the gift of nothing and let him get away from it all. The latest fad in spa experiences, isolation tanks (enclosed salt-water tubs) apparently offer a host of physical and mental benefits including increased creativity, stress relief, and pain management. The Float House on 4th is one of three companies (2 more are opening in Kitsilano later this year) offering this odd form of treatment. Have dad try it out and let us know about it!
