Crow Night at Vancouver Central Library May 9 + Kitsilano Bird Walks May 10

Crows are noisy fixtures in our lives in Vancouver. They claw their way across our rain gutters in the early hours of the morn. They swoop at you when you stroll too close to their nest in spring. They provide comedic relief when they chase seagulls, eagles and other larger birds. Curious to learn more about these highly social and seemingly cantankerous creatures? Check out Crow Night at Vancouver Public Library on May 9.

Crow specialist Dr. Rob Butler will lead the event, sharing stories and anecdotes from his four decades of studying birds.  Bonus: film-maker Mike McKinlay will show his film “Crows”. The short film, which debuted on the Knowledge Network, follows a group of crows that roost in Burnaby, BC.

Crow Night is one of a series of free community events held as part of Vancouver’s Bird Week, May 3-May 10. You can also attend free bird walks in Kitsilano area parks on May 10. Details below:

Jericho Park

Pacific Spirit Park

Location: Park centre parking lot (4915 West 16th Avenue)

Acadia Beach/UBC Cecil Green

Walk leader: Julian Hudson
Time: 9:00am to 10:00am
Location: Acadia trailhead parking lot (Pacific Spirit Regional Park entrance sign on northwest Marine Drive)
