videomatica-770-350-2Thrilling news for film buffs: anyone with a library card from UBC or Simon Fraser University can now take out films from the Kitsilano video store Videomatica.

The two universities acquired the $1.7 million collection after the Kitsilano video store closed in 2011, thanks to a donation and purchase agreement arranged by Vancouver philanthropist Yosef Wosk.

UBC received about 28,000 movie DVDs, 4,000 VHS films and 900 Blu-rays, which are at the Koerner Library on the Point Grey campus; SFU received more than 2,500 documentaries, which are at the W.A.C. Bennett library on the Burnaby Mountain campus.

Not a student and still want to get yourmitts on the goods? No problem. For members of the public, a library card from UBC costs $120 a year for anyone 18 years of age and older and $40 for anyone 65 and older; at SFU, members of the public pay $100 for a library card, but it’s free for people 60 and older.
