Recycling Your Christmas Tree in Vancouver

2135

christmastree10Wondering how and where to recycle your Christmas tree in Vancouver? You’ve got a few options. You can bring your tree to a tree chipping event. The annual Lions Club tree chipping takes place at Kitsilano Beach parking lot January 4-5 from 10am to 4pm. Your tree must be naked (no tinsel or lights). The wood chips are used for compost. There’s ongoing chipping now through January 5 at UBC Botanical Gardens from 9am to 4:30pm daily. Don’t forget to tip; $5 is recommended. Chipping is “free” but all proceeds go to charity.

Another option for recycling your Christmas tree is to put your tree out with your yard waste or food scraps to be collected by the City. Here are more detailed directions.

You can also drop your tree off at the landfill or transfer station. The Vancouver Landfill and the Vancouver South Transfer Station are accepting Christmas trees for free until January 31.
