Regardless of the season, a little pop of colour and a hint of a floral scent can work magic in any room. Daisies in a mason jar. A single rose by your bedside. Or an orchid on your entrance table. Having said that, flowers can be pricey so it pays (pun unintended) to know about some of the more affordable options in your neighbourhood.

I have a few favourites I am willing to share. These Kitsilano florists and flower shops are my go-to sources for a hostess gift or a touch of beauty in my own home.

This list is by no means comprehensive, so please share the flower power love and add your favourite flower picks by commenting below.

Favourite Flower Shops and Florists in Kitsilano

New Apple Farm
This little gem on Broadway and Macdonald is my favourite year-round flower shop. With a great selection of flowers and very, very reasonable prices starting at $1.99 for a bunch of flowers. In the spring, they have a stunning display of peonies. In the fall, they carry fun Chinese Lantern Plants. New Apple Farm also has a great deal where Wednesdays are 10% off days. That’s right, 10% off groceries and flowers. Do yourself a favour and go check them out!

Georgianna’s Flower Stand
I was introduced to Georgianna’s by a friend of mine. On a driveway under a fig tree stands a small white flower stand with a built in box down below for your toonie per flower bunch. All the flowers come from her garden and normally range from orange dahlias to pink roses. The flower bunches are neatly combined together with an elastic and without exchanging a word you drop your toonie into the money box and you are on your merry way with a pretty garden bouquet. As you can imagine, this is not a year round flower stand. It is normally operational from the spring to the fall. Sadly, Georgianna, affectionately known as “the Flower Lady”, passed away a few years ago, but her family continues to run the flower stand in her honour. I love everything about this flower stand!

Celsia Florist
This flower shop is aesthetically pleasing inside and out (brick building!) and they offer more upscale selection of flowers, plants and bouquets. This place is great if you need flowers delivered! For example, my partner was away for business for my birthday and he was able to call them and ask them to put together an arrangement of flowers that he knows I like in a mason jar (love!) and have it delivered at my work. As I am sure you can imagine, I was delighted! So if you are looking for a flower shop that has beautiful arrangements, the option to include a personalized message and have it delivered, this is the place! Online orders start at $50.

Hilary Miles Flowers on West 1st at Burrard!! This is the cutest store run by a fabulously funky woman and a great group of girls, and there’s always a cute chihuahua to say hi to as well 🙂 The flowers are top-notch, always beautiful, creative and fresh, and I believe Hilary sources many of them locally. If you’re not looking for a floral arrangement, the store has planty of unique, cute gifts as well! http://www.hilarymiles.com
