Autumn is here. Let’s pretend the next 6 months are not going to be rainy and gloomy. Instead, let’s celebrate the colourful, warm, and jovial aspects of this season by giving one or more of the following activities in Kitsilano a try. From harvest fun to cultural happenings, here are five fun things to do in Kitsilano in fall:

5 Fun Fall Activities in Kitsilano

1) Fall Foliage
Take a stroll through one of Kitsilano’s 17 beautiful parks to watch the leaves change into vibrant colours. Breathe in the cool fresh air. Soon the last remaining tourists will return home and you’ll have these wonderful places all to yourself again. Don’t forget your umbrella.

2) Moon Marvels
Bring the whole family to the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre for Saturn-5 Saturdays. Investigate our Solar System’s huge catalog of moons (including the harvest moon!), some of which might offer a place for life to exist outside of our planet. Discover what makes these bodies special and find out what will happen to the moons of Mars. Saturday, September 21 from 12:30pm – 3:30pm. Free with admission to the Space Centre. And don’t miss the exciting shows at the onsite planetarium, which recently underwent a $500,000 upgrade.

3) Happy Harvesting
Copy that frantic squirrel outside your window and start stashing away some root veggies, new potatoes, hazelnuts and more from the Kitsilano Farmers Market. The Kitsilano Farmers Market, from 10am – 2pm each Sunday, will continue on until October 20. The last Farmers Market Kitchen is on Sunday, September 29. Local chefs will be showing you how to cook with fresh market ingredients. Demos are at 11am and 1pm.

4) Comfort Chow
Indulge in your favourite comfort food at a local cozy spot (try Burgoo‘s lamb tagine, Corduroy‘s poutine, The Oakwood‘s corn beef sandwich, or a hot mug of real hot chocolate at Koko Monk). For more seasonal comfort food menus, check out this feature on fall comfort food in Kits.

5) Art  Appreciation
Yes, the Hollywood Theatre is, at the moment, a church. Movies are still showing on occasion! Get out of the rain and check out Eames: The Architect and the Painter , the 1st of a series of 4 films hosted by the Vancouver Heritage Foundation, on Tuesday, October 1 at 7:30pm. The husband-and-wife team of Charles and Ray Eames were America’s most influential and important industrial designers. Admired for their creations and fascinating as individuals, they have risen to iconic status in American culture. The film shows interviews with friends and colleagues and the ins-and-outs of their family life. Admission by donation.

What is the plan for the Hollywood in the long run? I’d be happy to contribute to the restoriation of the sign but need to now first how the building will be used.
    Thanks!

I would not mind contributing to the restauration of the “Hollywood’ theatre sign but would first like to know who own the building now and what the long term plans for it are.
    Thanks!
