Kitsilano Welcomes the Newest Location of Salt Tasting Room

Salt Tasting Room on West Broadway & Trafalgar St.

In the science of good eating, salt remains to be trumped as the most essential and versatile mineral in enhancing our tasting experience. Fittingly, Salt also lends itself to the name of a unique tasting room in Blood Alley, Gastown, specializing “in artisanal cheese, small-batch cured meats, and a dynamic array of wines, beers, and sherries.” Launched by the Heather Hospitality Group in 2006, Salt Tasting Room has now expanded to the westside with the inception of its second Salt Tasting Room location in Kitsilano at Broadway and Trafalgar.

Kitsilano.ca was invited to partake in a tasting experience at the new location of Salt, and after doing so are comfortable calling Salt a gastronomical gem. We welcomed this opportunity with open arms. Or, open mouths, I should say. See food porn below:

The Bar Area

Our evening began with Tammy, the assistant general manager, sharing with us her vast knowledge of the finest charcuterie, cheese, and wine. We arranged our tasting plates, carefully choosing from their ever-changing selection of 10 cheeses, 10 meats, and 10 condiments. Tammy helped us to pair each of our tasting plates with a flight of wine, fiercely sketching out our orders much like a painter would when creating her palette of colors, to prepare for the masterpiece that lies ahead.

While we awaited for our plates and flights to be arranged, we enjoyed a delicious kale salad accompanied by refreshing bubbly, namely ‘The Bub’ – a sparkling wine from Haywire, straight from the Okanagan.

With the arrival of our food and wine pairings, our papillae began to dance–papillae of the tongue, that is.

Our evening concluded with an Eton Mess, for dessert – an Italian meringue, topped with whip cream, and Okanagan-grown Pickershack cherries–a sweet and delicious finale to clad our tastebuds one last time.
