There is a certain magic about thrift shops. I love them and would definitely consider myself a thrift-a-holic. The low prices, the hunt for something new and unique, the eco-friendly appeal of recycling/reusing pre-loved clothing, the list goes on.

Inspired by my amazing finds as well as Macklemore’s hit song Thrift Shop, I have decided to share my top 3 thrift/consignment shops in Kitsilano.

In order from third place to first place, here they are:

3. Turnabout Clothing Consignment on West Broadway & Balaclava

Although I prefer thrift shops for the ‘thrill of the hunt’, I have found  a few great pieces: vintage virgin-wool coat with a hood, a figure hugging LBD dress and some pretty unique sterling silver necklaces. There is always something new and they have a fun colour-coded labeling system where if you’re lucky the cute top you like will be up to 70% off! Definitely a pricier option, but if you like having a more manicured and tidy shopping experience, this is the place for you! They accept new consignors so if you want to sell some of your clothing, it might be worth it to bring the better pieces on by.

2. Salvation Army on West 4th & Cypress

I have found many a killer hand bag here as well as a good assortment of funky skirts. This is my favourite ‘Sally Anne’ because it is light and bright and the people who work there are very personable. I am even on a first-name basis with some of them! Prices vary from a bargain to slightly overpriced but still better than buying it brand new. Please note, the Salvation Army is an international Christian church and has some rather controversial views on gay rights and abortion.

1. SPCA Thrift Store on West Broadway & Collingwood

This place has such character! You need time and determination to navigate the sheer amount of stuff…It is like entering a crazy aunt’s attic. Most of the time I score big here. Silk kimonos, high-waisted jeans, woven leather oxfords (see picture) and more. The  people who work here are super friendly and open to bargaining. Cheapest option in Kits by far! This place is open 7 days a week from 10am-6pm and they also accept clothing and furniture donations. Best part is that the proceeds support animals so pets are allowed in the store!

These are my top 3 thrift/consignment shops in Kits. If you have any thrift/consignment stores in Kits that you feel other thrift-a-holics should know about, please feel free to share in the comment box below! Happy thrifting!
