Just when we thought the Kitsilano Coast Guard Base closure drama was over, enter the mysterious memo. According to an internal federal government email obtained by Global News, the sale of three Metro Vancouver sites may well be the reason behind the hasty closing of the Kitsilano Coast Guard base last week.

Then there’s the contradictory sequence wherein that the government said that closing the base would save $700,000 a year. They followed this by announcing they’re about to invest $6.6 million in a coast guard station in Burin, N.L., population 2,470.

    As you know, CFB Jericho Beach has already been transferred to the Canada Lands Company, and the Kitsilano Coast Guard station will soon be owned by the Crown corporation. Vanier Park at English Bay is also federal property, I would not be surprised if the 41-acre park is declared “surplus” and privatized.
