The Kings Head Inn on Yew returns; Wings departs

2305

Great news, readers. For all of those mourning the loss of old neighbourhood businesses and the steady advance of chains, I’m pleased to report that the Kings Head Inn at 1618 Yew Street is back. We posted on their demise here: Kings Head Inn closing tomorrow after over 30 years in Kits.

A little bird (a reader email) informs me that:

“Yes, folks it’s back!  There were a few bumps in the road with various owners taking a shot at it over the years and the corporate look of Wings  for the last year but people weren’t buying into it. The place had been severely overhauled when they did their renovations for the new Wings look, but now the Kings Head has new staff, a new kitchen and menu and a new line brews. It’s still the Kingshead but without the smell.  Multiple HD TV’s and one of the only places in Kits to host UFC events.  The Kingshead has been around for 30 years….sort of. Grand reopening on November 17.”

I gave them a ring and asked for more details, but was told the owner wasn’t around. I did find out that the Kings Head is pushing craft beer and has 14 taps serving all-local brews. I’ll have to stop by and find out more.

Thank you,  “Canucklehead” for the email tip.

If you’ve already been to the renovated Kings Head, please help us out by sharing more below.

You said “the corporate look of Wings for the last two” . The Kings Head closed on Jan 1, 2012. Wings was only here for 10 months, not 2 years.

There’s Live Bands every Friday and Saturday night, 4.95 Breakfast on Sat/Sun 10am-3pm.
But the grand reopening isn’t on Nov 17, the place is going to shut down for a week or two to turn the interior back into a Pub and some day after that there will be a grand reopening…

Whats the big problem with Wings? Oh the big bad LOCAL owned and created chain…nope they don’t employ locals…only the local mom and pop shops do that, the NON chain places…dream on Vancouver. Commercial drive sucks too.
