Seaforth Highlanders to march from Armoury to Jericho Garrison, Sept. 9

1700

The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada invite all to witness a historical event as Vancouver’s Infantry Regiment marches out of their Armoury home to their temporary headquarters at Jericho Garrison.  The troops depart their home for the first time since 1936 due to vital Armoury construction upgrades over the next three years.  The Regiment will march out the Armoury double doors on Burrard Street and head West on West 4th Avenue on Sunday, September 9 at 10:00am.

The March Out will see over 100 soldiers (dressed in combat uniforms to represent their continued readiness to deploy in support of Domestic and Overseas operations in the service of Canada), Regimental Colours, Regimental Pipe and Drums and the band of 15th Field Regiment participating.  The troops will be escorted by armoured reconnaissance vehicles of the British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught’s Own) and the Vancouver Police Department Mounted Squad.  The parade will also pass under a huge Canadian flag held in place by two Vancouver Fire & Rescue Service ladder trucks as the Regiment approaches Jericho Garrison in honour of the Regiment’s 102 years of faithful service to Canada.

The March Out begins as the Regiment departs through the historical double doors of the Armoury, the same doors that the Regiment passed through when they departed Vancouver for World War II on December 15, 1939.  In 1939, they marched to the sounds of the Pipes & Drums playing “Scotland the Brave” and they will march out to this music again on Sunday, September 9th.
