Your guide to Khatsahlano Music + Art Festival 2012

2708

Khatsahalano! Music + Art Festival takes over West 4th Avenue from Burrard to Macdonald this Saturday, July 21, from 12-8pm. With 10 stages and over 40 bands it is quite plausible to become overwhelmed when planning your street party plan of attack.

A very strong case of fear of missing out, or FOMO, can be hard to cure.

Here is the full festival lineup with deets on  40+ bands,  stages and show times.

Regardless, we are here to help. Kitsilano.ca has studied the line up, and done our due diligence of music homework. Here is our suggested Khatsahlano Festival must see/do this Saturday on the West 4th festival strip.

Try the Kitsilano.ca suggested plan of attack (below).

12pm: Head to the OBEY Yew Stage to join Remo from Semperviva for a FREE yoga class. Always important to stretch and limber up before a day of dancing to music.

1:15pm: While you are at the OBEY Yew Stage you might as well stick around post yoga to cool down and take in the Neverland Burlesque show.

2:00pm: Head 1.5 blocks west for some food truck action. A number of Vancouver’s favourite food trucks will be on hand to fill your every foodie need.

2:45pm: Work off your late lunch by strolling down hill to the 100.5 Peak Stage at Burrard and W4th to hear Jeremy Fisher. Trust me on this one. Perfect 1st musical act of the day.

3:00pm: Casually walk your way back up West 4th towards Balsam, taking in some sidewalk sales and shopping along the way. I’ve heard of great summer sales at both CoCo’s Closet and Spank. Or if garage sales are more your thing trek over to Larch for a block wide garage sale.

5:30pm: Head to the Car2Go Balsam Stage. Be sure to say hi to the friendly folks at Car2Go – they are usually giving away driving minutes or free reg for new members. Grab a good spot and cath Ladyhawk who goes on at 6pm.

6:45pm: Here is where things get tricky! If you have a bike or are a fast walker I personally would quickly head back to the Burrard stage to catch headliners the Zolas who are ah-mazing live however sticking it out at the Balsam stage to catch Bend Sinister is a fabulous plan as well. Hit up a few of their tracks via ITunes or music player of choice (or by streaming the Peak) and see which one is tops for you.

8pm: Phew! You’ve made it. You deserve a pint to celebrate. If the weather is cooperating and you aren’t ready to resort to the indoors I recommend Rowan’s Roof patio, or if you can get a spot head into Fable for a pork buns and ice cream sandwiches. Say hi to Trevor for us!

Happy festival-ing Kitsers. We’d love to hear what your thoughts are on the 2012 Khatsahlano festival. Come back to give us your comments post festival.

So Cool 🙂 Nice to see 4th transformed into a big street party! We biked in, wandered the whole length of the event, loved Jeremy Fischer! had burgers from a food truck (excellent idea), frozen yogurt, agua fresca at Whole Foods, enjoyed a beer at the Wired Monk patio, LOVED the amazing baking from the PureBread stall.

Next time I’d like to see more music (single musicians, smaller ensembles, buskers……while waiting interminably for stage bands to set up)

We look forward to the continued growth of the event

Next time we’d love to use a Bicycle Valet !
