Blaq Sheep Coffee House: Kitsilano gains another independent coffee shop

2625

Independent coffee shop Blaq Sheep Coffee is now open at 2959 West 4th Ave., the former Cafe Zucchero space. My usual coffee shop picks are Viva on Yew and the charming, out of the way Arbutus Coffee. Although recently, I find myself drawn to the other newbie independent coffee shop, Culprit Coffee, perhaps because of the sunny yellow exterior. It’s that irresistible summer feeling.

But back to Blaq. It’s a spacious, good-looking coffee shop done up in dark wood and leather with a perfect view of Starbucks across the street. Prices are reasonable; the menu includes tempting sandwiches and gluten free cakes along with espresso and tea drinks. They also serve beer, which puts Blaq Sheep Coffee in another category entirely from its booze-free coffee shop peers. The staff is friendly, and for mums, there’s room for stroller parking.

Overall, I’d give Blaq a positive review. Blaq Sheep has one other Vancouver location, on Pacific in Yaletown.

I’ll miss Cafe Zucherro. The owner was always friendly and the place had good food and drinks. I just never saw too many people coming through the door. I hope blaq sheep can make a better go at it.

Cafe Zucherro was great – owner was a big personality, great character. Kitsilano just lost some of it’s heart. Best of luck to Blaq Sheep.

I’ve been in this location a few times now and the staff are usually very friendly and outgoing, making you feel like you’re joining the family. I’ve seen the previous owners of Cafe Zucherro sipping espresso there as well. All in all, always an enjoyable experience and the products are made with care.
