According to Celebration of Light’s Sunday Facebook post, China won the 2011 Celebration of Light.

And the winner of the 2011 Celebration of Light is…..CHINA!
It was a VERY close decision with our panel of 8 judges coming to the decision that China put on the best all around show at this years Fireworks.

Congratulations to the Chinese team, and thank you to both Canada and Spain for making this competition one of the strongest in years!

Who’ll be coming back next year?

The results were highly controversial. Viewers commented:

THIS IS ABSURD. China’s music you couldn’t hear .. and further .. it wasn’t NEARLY as robust as EITHER Spain’s display or Canada’s .. SHAME ON YOUR DECISION!!!!

How did you manage to mis-spell CANADA as CHINA? Worst. Typo. Ever!
Let’s hope people won’t riot because Canada didn’t win.

Booo!!! Spain was the only one to have unusual fireworks that matched the music (those ‘waves’, kitchy smiley faces, and the swirls that evoked Arabic script during the Moorish music, etc. . Only 3 of 33 FB comments supported China.

Spain was amazing! Choreography was unbelievable. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Canada was fantastic as well, but a bit manic. Congratulations China. Already looking forward to next year.

Ya, I don’t agree. I think the Canada night was by far the best.

  2. Mojo says:

Eh? Que? The Chinese left the ‘competitors’ in the dust. Spanish and Canada lost when they went for the kitschy flowers.

  3. Mary says:

Couldn’t believe China won….the judges evidently didn’t see the tremendously elegant Spanish display. There were two instances in the Chinese performance where there were long lulls, no synchronicity with the music. Canada was also impressive.

  4. Mojo says:

No points for elegance. This is fireworks we are talking about. Biggest bang takes it all.

  5. Al says:

Hope I can make it out next year.
