Beauty Bonanza: Bombay Brow Bar Launches in Kits

Eyebrows are a make it or break it element of grooming. A well-manicured set of brows enhances the shape of your face. If you’re not convinced, think back to that party where you shaved off your buddy’s eyebrows. Even the Mona Lisa needs a frame.

The sisters behind Vancouver’s Bombay Brow Bar, which launched its Kits location  Friday at 2206 W.4th Avenue (where Big City Cupcake once was), are devoted to brow beauty. Amy Minhas and Ravy Mehroke did not want Bombay Brow Bar to be a spa with brow services; they created Vancouver’s only eyebrow boutique.

I popped by the hot pink temple to the brow and I found that the services on offer are reasonable. Bombay Brow Bar gives a consultation and “bombshell brow” shaping for $23, which also comes with gossip, a cup of chai, Indian forehead massage, soothing rosewater eye gel application and complimentary brow finishing make up. You can book ahead but the beauty of the bar-style environment is the flexibility; they welcome walk-ins and send you back into the world in about 20 minutes.

I wasn’t familiar with threading as a hair removal technique until recently, when I was a bridesmaid at an Indian wedding, and the whole wedding party, including the groom, had their brows done. Threading is an ancient Indian skill which uses cotton thread to entwine and remove hair. Threading has its hair removal perks; it’s precise, it can target tiny hairs, pulling them from the follicle—which I found less painful than tweezing—plus it minimizes irritation in the delicate eye area. I now prefer threading, but if you’re set on waxing, they’ll still do it for you.

If you’re wondering what you’ll look like after a brow makeover, co-owner Amy Minhas says that her brow idols are Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox and Jennifer Lopez. As a fan of strong brows, Minhas also says that adding shape and thickness to brows is like getting a mini face-lift.

Beyond brow shaping, Bombay Brow Bar also does brow tinting (lighter or darker), eyelash tinting and general fuzz removal.

Check out some pics from their fab launch party that took place Friday, featuring mini cupcakes from Dolce Delights and more munchies from Rasoee Indian Kitchen.
