It was hailed as the successor to Vancouver institution Duthie Books when it opened last year but now Ardea Books is following in its predecessor’s footsteps. Ardea Books at 2025 West 4th is scheduled to close its doors on Saturday, May 14th.

Ardea’s manager and co-owner, Ria Bleumer, managed Duthie’s for 16 years until its closure in February 2010 and opened Ardea Books (originally named Sitka Books) in September 2010 in the former Book Warehouse location.

I never like to see a store like this go out of business, especially after such a short time.
BUT……. what the hell were they thinking?!!!

I hope no one lost their life savings over it.

Too long opening/too much money spent on interior renovations=too bad.

They had some interesting selections on the shelves but it was apparent that the target market was a tiny one.

    +1 to the above.
If you want a bookstore to model yourself after in this day and age it had better have a niche like Kidsbooks on Broadway. Sadly Ardea projected no warmth or welcome from an exterior view (even with a super modest budget they could have come up with a touch or two of coziness).

    Glory Road.
Do you have it? I can’t find your phone number:(
