Meet a Marathon Legend in Kits

Calling all running enthusiasts!

Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to compete officially in the Boston Marathon, is going to be in Kitsilano this Monday. Katherine led the drive to help make women’s marathon an Olympic event  which was first contested at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Kathrine will be at the Icebreaker Kitsilano TouchLab store to do a book signing of her 2 marathon books and give a talk on how running has become an official sport for women since the 1960’s.

Here are the details about her talk. Be sure to RSVP so you can get your hands on the free socks!:

  • Date:  Monday, May 2nd from 6-7 pm
  • Location:  Icebreaker Kitsilano TouchLab Store – 2089 West 4th Avenue
  • RSVP:  To kitsilano@icebreaker.com by Monday at 2 pm. All RSVPs who attend will get a free pair of Icebreaker socks.

Switzer is the author of Running and Walking for Women Over 40 : The Road to Sanity and Vanity, Marathon Woman: Running the Race to Revolutionize Women’s Sports and is co-author (with Roger Robinson) of 26.2: Marathon Stories.
