Where to go for Comedy in Kitsilano

1960

Kitsilano has a long history in Vancouver’s comedy scene thanks to Brent Butt’s run as host of the Urban Well’s comedy night where Hapa Izakaya now stands on Yew Street.

While the location wasn’t ideal – female patrons have to cross the stage to get to the washroom – the Urban Well became a comedy institution. So much so that whenever Robin Williams was in town he would drop into the Well to do a five minute set.

For the younger crowd out there, the host of last night’s Saturday Night Live has even performed at the Urban Well.

But where can you go to get your comedy on now??

  • Mondays at 8:00pm – Urban Improv at Rowan’s Roof – 2340 West 4th Avenue – Phone: 604-733-0330
  • Tuesdays at 9:30pm – Stand-Up Comedy hosted by Patrick Maliha at Darby’s Pub – 2001 MacDonald Street – Phone: 604-731-0617
  • Wednesdays at 9:00pm – Comedy Night at Nevermind presented by Kevin Foxx – 3293 West 4th Avenue – Phone: 604-736-0212

Remember that Vancouver’s comedy scene is constantly in flux, so I suggest that you call venues to confirm before heading out for a laugh.

If you have any other local suggestions, let us know and we’ll add them.

Nevermind (W 4th and Blenhiem – a few blocks west of Darby’s) has comedy night on Wednesday! I’ve always had a good time there – if you don’t want to sit right in front of the comics or want to have side conversations they also stream the feed to a TV on the other side of the bar.

@Nathan – Thanks. I’ve added Nevermind to the list.
