Fifth Avenue Listings and Oscar Predictions

1355

If anyone was with me in setting the aggressive goal of watching each Oscar contender movie prior to the 2011 Academy Awards ceremony, you have only 2 nights of movie watching left! Start popping the popcorn.

Our favourite local movie theatre (just voted so by the annual WE best of Vancouver list) have shown almost all of the big Oscar contenders at their theatre the past few months. Along my movie watching journey I’ve also been giving you my reviews on these great flicks. The listings for this week are below and 2 movies with Oscar nominations are left to see. Incendes, a Canadian Film is up for Best Foreign Film and has a good chance of winning, as well you can watch Javier Bardem in his Oscar nominated lead actor role in Biutiful.

On to predictions! Here’s who I’m putting my money on to win Mr. Oscar this weekend. If you are going to an Oscar party feel free to steal my selections!

Best Actress

Who will win: Natalie Portman

Who should win: Natalie Portman – I loved her as the ultimate deranged ballerina!

Best Actor

Who will win: Colin Firth for the Kings Speech

Who should win: I wish Jessie Eisenberg could take this for his spectacular role in The Social Network, but the King is a lock.

Best Picture

Who will win: The King’s Speech

Who should win: I’d be thrilled with either the Black Swan or The Social Network. They were my top movies of 2011. However, the Academy loves a period piece and an English accent. Expect the sweep from the King’s Speech.
