Pinky’s Steakhouse and Cocktail Lounge didn’t last long in its original Yaletown location. Not long after opening it was replaced by Charlie’s Pizza but Chuck didn’t fare much better and shut its doors last week. It should be interesting to see if another restaurant takes a chance on that doomed location.
But it looks like the Pinky’s concept wasn’t made for Kits either. Romer’s Burger Bar took over their location at West 4th and Burrard in late June and the early reviews are stellar. But can it survive?

May I do a little dance now that Pinky’s is gone? Well hell yes, since I have just found what was missing in my search for the ultimate burger. Softly toasted brioche buns. Romer’s has changed the landscape of burgers for me, there’s no doubt about it. ~ Crystal H.
This is a whole new era in Kitsilano burgers…
I visited Romer’s expecting the typical Vancouver sports-bar-diner, but this place is the opposite of that. The fries menu alone contains everything you could ever wish for, provided you knew that such feats of french fry were possible: gorgonzola, bacon, sea salt… oh, and proper poutine, too, if you’re into that sort of thing.
The U-shaped bar offers only local beer on tap, and the burger menu is superb. Never mind bacon-cheeseburgers: how about short-rib cheeseburgers? The sliders are fantastic, as well.
Deep, comfy booths and high tables give a fancy-but-not-fussy feel. Friendly staff, too. I’ll definitely be back, likely within the week.

The burgers are literally to die for. The meat is all LOCAL and fresh which I can’t describe how much I appreciate. The toppings range from your usual suspects, to really unique but delicious! You can also order your burger green, meaning it comes wedged between two big slabs of iceburg lettuce – AWESOME for those of us curbing carbs. But that being said, the buns are made in house and must be tried at least once! Burgers range from $9 to $14, just for the burger. Fries come at $3 – but its a whole basket that can feed 2 to 4 people easily. ~ Kate H.
