Migrant workers protest in front of the Pulse on West Broadway

1235

Migrant workers took to the streets in protest for their cause today and marched to the scene of the crime at the Pulse, a seven-story, 74-unit condo complex on West Broadway and Maple Street. The workers had been contracted to work on the upscale condo development and say they are still owed $60K in wages.

Fifty workers and supporters wore white balaclavas and shirts emblazoned with messages denouncing Bastion Development Corporation and its contractor HDM Hudson Enterprises. The workers are claiming non-payment of wages owed to 17 workers, not following basic labour laws, and failing to produce proper employee records.

Some workers also allege they were falsely told by HDM Hudson that they would receive documentation that would allow them to stay in Canada following the condo project.

Good to see that there is some local Kitsilano coverage. It is important that Bastion and RDM aren’t allowed to get away with this. Not paying their workers! Shame on them! I support the workers getting some justice and their money.
