A Wake for Duthie Books

1435

As we have written before, Duthie’s last location will be shutting down its doors at the end of February. It seems that a proper wake will be held in its honour, and you are invited.

The wake will be held on Monday, February 15th, 7 pm at the Shebeen in Gastown. Tickets are $20 (proceeds go to charity), and the ticket includes a drink and dinner choices: entree salad, vegetarian pasta, bangers and mash, fish and chips, all finished off with a sleeve of domestic draft or glass of white and red wine.

Celia Duthie will be a guest of honour. According to the invite, the dress code is “funereal” and yet a “black beret and tame yet ominious raven” are optional. If you have a collection of old Duthie bookmarks, bring your favorites in and there will be a prize for the best one!

At the wake, Duthie Books will be accepting book donations for charity, and books donated will be photographed with their donors (unless you’re shy)! All books and $5 from each ticket sold will go to the Strathcona One to One Literacy program.  And remember, Duthie Books is having their regular sale starting at the end of January, so you can show your support for Duthie Books and contribute to charity at the same time if you buy the books to donate at Duthie

Come out and share your reminiscences of the deceased, and toast the memory of a fine, upstanding bookstore. Buy your tickets now at Eventbrite before they all go.

Thanks for blogging this. There are still some spaces available, so show up at the door and we’ll squeeze you in if you want.

You’re welcome, Lorraine. I’ll drop by to donate some books tonight.
