1818 Cornwall Open House tomorrow night

1905

The developers behind 1818 Cornwall Avenue are hosting an open house tomorrow night (June 17th) but according to one of our readers they aren’t doing a good job advertising it.

No one in my building and/or neighbourhood that I have spoken to have been given notice of this ‘open house’ which I find completely inappropriate. How is it an “open house” when those living in the immediate vicinity are not informed?

I am extremely concerned about a high density building in this area. It will be horrific for parking and traffic in the area, plus views. I have already noticed some traffic chaos near Seaforth Park and lack of parking in the area during the past few sunny weekends.

She may have a point but from my perspective – eight blocks away – it looks like the developers are doing everything right. Check out their public consultation website.

Advice to the developers – befriend this neighbor quick or be damned.

Looks to me like they’re doing everything by the books.

Nice website. Had no idea that building used to be a Coca-Cola plant.

I live on 2nd and Maple and I received a notice to attend the open house. The building is ugly and a facelift would be wonderful. This building has a lot of potential to add housing, retail and services to many people in the community. Right now it does nothing… just my opinion but show up to the open house and say yours!

There was a flyer that was delivered to every PO box in my building about this meeting.

I agree it’s an ugly building.

@BillBarilko – Always love your input. Let me know if you’re interested in writing the odd blog post this summer.

I agree the building could use a facelift, and perhaps could serve the community in some way, but I do not think a high-density (5 FSR) rezoning — which means approx 3 or more 14+ story high rises — in that location would assist the area. Plus I believe they would make the ground level retail, which means even more foot traffic and vehicles. In my opinion, it should be capped at 5 floors (which I believe is 3 FSR) like the rest of the buildings in the area. I do not think an exception should be made for this building as it would back up traffic on an already busy Cornwall, Burrard, and 1st Ave, not to mention the traffic on tiny little Chestnut beside Seaforth Park. Try looking for parking in the neighbourhood now, particularly on a sunny weekend, let alone with a few hundred more new residents and visitors if the rezoning is granted.

Further, judging by the comments above, it appears the mailout was hit & miss. No one I spoke to in my building or the building across the street received any flyers and we are 1 block away. Further, I spoke with a few residents of the 2 Yorkville towers and the individuals I spoke with did not receive any flyers.

I do not think the surrounding neighbours would approve of their presently scenic views being changed to, and blocked by, a number of highrises. Hopefully the word is getting out and people will show up to the meeting tonight and future meetings to voice their opinions so that whatever does happen to the building is supported by the majority of the neighbourhood.

Hey! This is kind of off topic but I need some guidance from an established blog.
Is it hard to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about creating my own but I’m not sure where to begin. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks
