Lotuswear Closed

3915

lotuswear“Yoga-wear row” on West 4th is starting to get rather thin. After Karma closing its mortar and brick doors back in December, Lotuswear is the next to follow.

The note on the door directs customers online and to the Hastings location. According to their website, they also have a store at Park Royal, as well as 3 others across BC. And according to that same website they will also be opening two new stores in Tsawwwassen and Steveston. This makes the West 4th closure somewhat puzzling, as one would think that it is a great location to attract yogis. Perhaps Lotuswear thrives better in locations where they are not in direct competition with the mother of all yoga-wear brands.

Perhaps closing the Kits location was a personal choice of the owner. Considering that there are multiple locations in BC and Alberta the company must be doing very well. Saying that it perhaps thrives better in locations where “the mother of all yoga wear brands” is not, seems unfair. Perhaps Lotuswear would rather stay community friendly and not become swept up in the corporate giant race.

Considering there are not multiple locations in BC and Alberta, I thought I should set you straight with the facts. I do know that 6 locations closed last year and now Kits, and Richmond. To think they are opening any new locations puzzles me! Don’t fool yourself-that last comment is so far from the truth!!

  3. bill says:

They have closed several stores , Kelowna, Kamloops, White Rock, 2 in Calgary, Langley and more. They are on a downward spiral in terms of quality and sustainability in my opinion.

  4. donnae says:

They seem to be closed everywhere, I can’t find them.

  5. Anonymous says:

ive worked for lotus wear..and they are indeed on a downward spiral, they closed 9 stores Kelowna, Kamloops, White Rock, 2 in Calgary, Langley and richmond center.. kits and hasting’s. The owners are bankruptand are very poor business people who treat the employess like crap. the clothes are great but sadly they cant compete with lululemon.

  6. Former Franchisee says:

Just to be clear. Lotuswear did not close their stores. They were mostly frnachise stores that lost a lot of money because Lotuswear didn’t deliver what they promised.
The clothes were good but the R & D and marketing was not. They had 9 stores open and all the potential but sadly they didn’t deliver.

  7. Kim says:

All their products was taking over buy liquators so obliviously they are closing shop.

  8. I wanted to share an article I recently wrote about the closure of Syka, Canada’s largest eco-friendly textile supplier. (view it here: http://www.vancouverobserver.com/blogs/openforbusiness/2010/01/21/hows-recession-affecting-your-business ) I am a small business owner and all these bankruptcies are quite troubling. I endeavor to make locally produced sustainable clothing which seems to be more difficult every day and with a client base that seems less and less inclined to pay the value of goods. Personally I find I’m always undercutting costs for the sake of cheaper prices.

Though I think these closures might be a result of the current economic state it worries me that the recession coupled with the ‘walmart’ style products flooding the market from big businesses that the green movement is rapidly being killed.

(Anyone who is interested in sharing more on it with me… meet me on my website… I’m gong to try to post more: http://spiffydigs.wordpress.com and would love more input!)

  9. Svenstar says:

Lotuswear is closed, they were a low class company who’s owners treated employees terribly. I am glad to see this company get what they deserved.

  10. Jena says:

I bought something online from Lotuswear and have not received my product despite being charged for it on Feb. 14, 2010. I did not know they were filing for bankruptcy! Does anyone know a contact number so I can get my money back because all of their phone numbers are out of service. Thanks.

  11. me says:

Jena try emailing the owner directly at Lisa@lotusyogawear.com she probabley won’t respond but its worth a shot hope that helps or go to the factory outlet on marine drive she will be there ! Sven star! I totally agree having worked for them for over a year they did nothing but treat the employees like crap!!no worse then crap like dog sh*t !!!

  12. Frances says:

Jena, if emailing the owner directly does not work, you can take it up with your credit card company. Canada has a Fair Credit Billing Act, and this law defines “charges for goods or services not received” as one of many billing errors that can be disputed.

In fact, many credit card issuers have policies against merchants charging a credit card account before shipment. If you think a merchant charged your account prematurely, report it to the credit card issuer. Otherwise, the credit card issuer has no way to know that the merchant is not complying with its policies.

Important Note: The deadline for notifying your credit card company of a billing error is 60 days from the date the bill was mailed to you (check envelope postmark).

    I hope that helps!

  13. LWS says:

im sure the owner LISA will not respond , I agree with Frances…. try getting your money back from the credit card company. It sucks i know and it’s unfortunate but its a low class company…who made some poor business choices and have paid the price…I can’t imagine why I see LOtus wear in thrift stores now a days…mmmm… maybe i should get rid of my huge collection of stuff…It took me 9 months to get my vacation pay from them, and have still yet to recieve my last pay cheque from when my store closed in 2009…i just gave up!!… but I was told when the store closed if i wanted to have a job I could invest 15,000 to help them open new stores as apparently they are expanding in china?!!?!?!?!? i told them to F off! and i wouldnt give them a dime seeing as they would probabley run off with it….

  14. Anonymous says:

I have a credit of $65. I guess I’m out of luck as I tried going to the Kits location and E. Hastings location and they were both closed. I also tried calling them and could not reach anyone. Had a bad feeling that they were all closing. That’s why I hate receiving credit for a store when they already have my money. Now they have my money and I have no goods!!

  15. kathy says:

i just email lisa and got a response right away and she was realy cool. thanks

  16. kathy says:

apparently she said they have opened there on the island and anothe three here in may.

  17. me says:

I wouldn’t believe a word Lisa says, she may seem *cool* but in reality she is telling you what you want to hear! Trust me I worked for her and she was contantly telling us stories about stores openning pay raises etc and it was all lies ! They are not opening 3 stores ! I have been trying to get my t4 from them and whadda know I can’t reach them liars!!

  18. Anonymous says:

hmmm….she told me that the stores would be opening in june. seems like conflicting information.

  19. kits yogi says:

wow may or june, are you people so petty…. please devote you time to a worthy cause…. it would be interesting if this wasnt a one sided debate… what would the real owner say if there even is one… it is a company!!!!
check bcspca.ca or something worthwhile… sad you are so dis-gruntled after such a long time if the business is closed!

  20. Anonymous says:

Mmmm not disgruntled, this is an open forum , every person has a right to voice their opinion . I actually do volunteer at the spca 🙂 thank you very much! How can you call us petty when you don’t know us? Maybe instead of interupting this forum with your mindless blabble you should get your butt off the computer and focus on a more worthy cause like the spca or something

  21. kits yogi says:

right anonymous, and you know the owner of lotuswear or spca or any other organization… not likely. I am a yoga teacher I help people everyday and try not to spread rumours and harmful words about people I do NOT know.

  22. Anonymous says:

Kits yogi. Surprise! I do know the owners very well infact! They are actually friends of mine 🙂 does having Dinner at their house count as knowing them?? They are indeed opening up 2 new stores this month and more to follow

  23. Anonymous says:

Really? Could you tell me where these new stores will be so that everyone still holding a credit for their merchandise can use it. I’ve been to their liquidation store today on Marine Drive. They have gone bankrupt!!

  24. Anonymous says:

they havent actually and are re-opening very soon. in the next month or 2.:)

  25. Anonymous says:

where are these new locations going to be?

  26. Swindled by Lotuswear says:

I was also a former franchise owner. I hope they do reopen so that I can sue and get the $200,000 back they cost me.All I got got was lies and empty promises. I will bet another $200,000 that they won’t be opening anywhere. Their website was full of “opening soon” locations and NONE ever opened. I feel sorry for the person that has a $65.00 credit they can’t use , but try losing $200,000 and see how that feels.

  27. Lotuswear Bankrupt says:

My heart goes out to swindled by Lotuswear. I am that $65 credit holder along with many others that hold a credit. I was constantly checking the website waiting for the stores to have their “Grand Opening”. Looks like the friend of the owners has not responded back regarding the “new” store locations……….because there will never be one.

  29. hi there, as one of the co-founders of lotuswear, the one and only true fact in this blog is that we did have to close the design side of the company through wolridge mahon. we closed the five franchises and the six stores under this company. We continue to operate and open stores under Lotuswear Manufacturing. If your are truly interested you can email me directly. thanks, Lisa

  30. Anonymous says:

Having worked for a Lotuswear franchise I can honestly say the company wasn’t that bad. We always got what we ordered and could always return what we didn’t want. It’s been a few years since I worked there but I do remember the franchise owner having issue with not having enough stock but I always thought there was never enough ordered. I guess when you run a franchise you don’t want to take a risk with ordering to much and being left with clothes you can’t sell but I guess that’s the risk in retail.

  31. X Franchise says:

The franchised stores were CLOSED by each store owner not by Lotuswear as Lisa states, like other owner of a store we lost more than the $200,000, the day we closed the store was the smartest thing we did otherwise we would have lost a lot more.

  32. xx Franchise says:

Yes, we the Franchise owners closed our own stores. NOT Lisa. I lost a lot more than 200,000!! Sadly their ethics and how they do business are all wrong. As Lisa has commented on “if you are truly interested, email me direct” that is a laugh, truly interested?? reading your own clip pressings again Lisa? That is and should be the furthest thing from anyone’s mind if they have one! How do you sleep at night Lisa…

  33. Incorrect, it was the rbc that closed and is now taking each franchise to court. this is all documented. I find it interesting that you would not state your names IF what you said was legitimate.

  34. Steve says:

I empathize with all who lost money. But I question how anyone could find value in investing $200,000 in a 2nd rate franchise like Lotuswear. Retail done correctly really isn’t that challenging and can provide an excellent return on investment. However, I don’t think clothing retail lends itself to franchising concepts. Anyone remember Benetton? The parent company is the only beneficiary in these situations. Canadian law makes it very easy for the principals of limited liability companies to drain the assets out of the company through exorbitant personal salaries, declare bankruptcy and walk away unscathed.

  35. kel says:

I am a past employee of LW. All the things people have written are true, they did not care about their customers or employees only about making money. When you worked there, they promised raises, promotions but nothing ever came. You also had to take calls and in person complaints all the time. It was hard to work there. Everyone was overworked and underpaid.

I received an email from Deal Ticker which sas for $19 u get $40 worth of lotuswear plus free shipping (see link below).

I went on their website to see their clothes but it seems there are no products available.

Does anyone know if this is a scam? Do they sell you vouchers but theres no actual merchandise to purchase?

    http://www.dealticker.com/_19_for__40_worth_of_clothing__accessories__and_more_plus_free_shipping_courtesy_of_lotus_yoga_wear___40_value__en_3235prod.html

  37. P.D. says:

So staff in most places are over worked and under paid, what’s new? That is what business is about. Just look at Walmart, zellers etc etc etc. Now would someone please tell me the truth what is going on today with this company? Do they actually have a store in Vancouver anywhere? Are they operating? Is it safe to order from them?

  38. M.S says:

I recently purchased a groupon for lotusvive, are they the same company? They have a store in w. van somewheres, but they also have a website (exactly the same as lotuswears old site) Try using the the dealticker there

  39. DM says:

Try this site to order from.
    http://www.lotusvive.com/
I bought the dealticker and completed my purchase and my goods have arrived!

  40. Anonymous says:

I would not trust any coupons/deals from this company. The old website no longer works and all of the stores around Vancouver, Victoria and Nanaimo have closed.

  41. Anonymous says:

The stores that have closed: Kelowna, Kamloops, Nanaimo, Victoria, Park Royal Mall and Kitsilano. After the comment above, I checked but could not find a reputable website for this company or any new products. Looks like lotuswear and lotusvive is the same company….maybe an attempt to get away from all the bad press that surrounded lotuswear?
