BMX & Mountain Bike Park in Vanier Park?

2124

That’s what the Vancouver Park Board is trying to decide, and an open house has been planned for Tuesday March 31st.

A recent staff report [PDF] suggests that, while 5 new skate parks have been built in the last 10 years, no “sanctioned” BMX/mountain bike facilities currently exist within Vancouver. The only known facility was a “rogue” dirt jump terrain that had been set up in a park at Oak and 37th. Concerns about mature trees led to the demolishing of the site, and there was no room for the dirt jump park in the newly developed Oak Meadows park.

Together with proponents of a BMX/mountain bike facility, the Parks Board has identified a small vacant space next to the kayak/boat storage in Vanier Park as a potential site for a dirt jump park.

The open house is scheduled for Tuesday March 31st from 5:00-8:00pm at the Vancouver Museum’s Local History Lab (1100 Chestnut Street). For more details, contact Mark Vulliamy, Manager of Research and Planning, at mark.vulliamy@vancouver.ca or 604.257.8461.
