Save the Fireworks

Some took the announcement that this year’s HSBC Celebration of Light has been canceled harder than others. Patrick Postrehovsky, for instance, was upset enough that he instantly set up a Facebook group in support of the event. Within 9 hours, the group had 537 members. The support kept growing so fast that 5 days later, Patrick set up savethefireworks.ca.

The site contains lots of information about the event, but, more importantly, the site also takes donations. To date, a rather impressive $9,750 has been raised, but this figure is still well short of the $400,000 target, and time is running out.

On the Facebook group, Patrick announced a week ago that some news was forthcoming. Who knows, the event might be saveable yet.

Glad to see the end of that gross sonic assault.

If people want fireworks why not put time/energy/money into a dazzling display for Canada Day?

Other cities have large well attended well organised celebrations for Canada Day, Vancouver OTOH has one that is nothing short of pathetic, so much so that when people ask I tell them to go to Steveston.

A little bird whispered in my ear that the Aisenstat’s(the guys who own the Kegs etc.)were going to cut a check for the fireworks

I have agree with Bill… I just don’t see the point in fireworks. It’s the same shit over and over again. Focusing on a better Canada Day in Vancouver would be much more interesting.
