Dine Out 2009: Kitsilano Participants

DOVReady, Set, Go! Dine Out Vancouver reservations start today.

Some people hate it, others love it. When we finally made it to our first Dine Out meal at Gastropod last year I thoroughly loved it, while my wife found the whole experience so-so. What I loved was that we finally managed to try a restaurant we had been meaning to go to for a while at a very reasonable price. And we were more than rewarded on that front. What my wife disliked about the whole experience was the fairly unwelcoming atmosphere. And I’ll admit, it was somewhat of a rushed dinner.

I’m not sure yet whether or not we’ll make it out for Dine Out this year, but I guess we better decide soon, as tables tend to go fast.

Here are the Dine Out 2009 participants located in Kitsilano:

Nice post Erik. FYI – Gastropod is kicking it off a week early and will be offering their special $38 three-course menu beginning on January 7th.

Bistro Pastis for $28 is a great deal. The food is always fantastic and their entrees are at least $28 on a regular day. Also, in my expert opinion (and I have eaten a LOT of frites), Bistro Pastis has the BEST pomme frites in the city. I could go there any day just for a plate frites and a cocktail.

Gastropod is also good value, but no oysters on the dine-out menu?! I hope you can order them a la carte.

Wow, there are a few restaurants on there that are not worth your time! I could name about three, but I won’t.

    Dine out is fun, though…enjoy!

Thanks for the heads-up on Gastropod’s early start Kelly TT.

And Angie, the oysters are available, but – in true Dine Out up-sell fashion – you’ll have to pay the $3 supplement. It was the same last year, when they had a supplement option available on all three courses for roughly $5 per upgrade. Annoyed me at the time, but at the same time it allows for a little more flexibility. And the oysters are definitely worth it.

Bistro Pastis at $28 is an absolute steal. And I saw they have a Steak Frites on the menu. Yum.

Darren, I too had to raise my eyebrows a few times while compiling the list. And I think I did so more than three times 🙂

Yes, I also kept mum on the “eyebrow raisers.” We can talk in private about it 🙂

Rocky Mountain Pizza is a great deal at $18! Friends and I went twice for DOV last year; once before a movie and another time just for a quick dinner. The food is health consious with organic and whole wheat products. Definitely going again!
