Indishpensable In Every Way

I finally took fellow Kitsilano.ca blogger Erik’s advice (here and again here) and headed up Arbutus to Indishpensable yesterday in search of a gourmet dinner for the deck.

What’s Indishpensable??  They help you cook fantastic, healthy, gourmet dinners at home. They do all the leg-work so you can enjoy easy cooking in the comfort of your own kitchen with less stress. Indish meals feature fresh, seasonal and local ingredients and change every few weeks.

They’ve added a lunch menu (eat-in or take-out) to the mix, so we ended up having a mid-day meal as well. According to Indishpensable proprietor Brent Kyle – who is passionate about his business and a pleasure to talk to – the lunch menu is an answer to the requests of regular clientele and walk-by traffic asking for more than just dinner. Lunch didn’t disappoint – I had the Cajun Chicken Salad and my wife had a tenderloin steak sandwich. Both meals had us counting down the hours until we could call it dinnertime and get the Chicken Burgers we picked out for dinner on the BBQ.

Indishpensable has been wise to expand their offerings up and down the food chain. They do everything from hosting cooking parties where groups prepare meals in a social setting with expert chef guidance to hosting kid’s birthday parties on Saturdays.

Business was brisk while we were in the smartly decorated working kitchen and cafe. Indishpensable’s menu is tweaked regularly as Kyle & staff experiment with local suppliers and ingredients. Yesterday afternoon’s 8-year old girl’s birthday party was featured pizza dough from Rocky Mountain Flatbread and a cake from Notte’s on Broadway. And their search for the perfect bagel to host their new smoked salmon sandwich is on – Solly’s bagels were taste-tested last week and Kyle was off to Siegel’s on Saturday morning to grab some fresh ones right from the oven.

Look out for more from Indishpensable on Kitsilano.ca over the coming months. We hit it off and they’ve agreed to come on board as a site sponsor and exclusive sponsor of our growing EAT directory.
