YYoga coming to Kitsilano – Move Over Bikram

1875

Terry McBride of Nettwerk Music fame is bringing the muscle of music marketing to the ancient art of yoga. McBride has launched a chain of yoga studios called YYoga (Why Yoga) and Kitsilano is their next expansion stop. YYoga incorporates restful tea lounges, infrared saunas, and in-house yoga classes.

To launch the concept, YYoga has started with two existing studios, Flow, now Flow YYoga downtown, and Yaletown YYoga. In the works is YYoga Kitsilano, a new studio on West Broadway between Pine and Fir streets.

McBride, whose music company grew out of his Vancouver apartment to become a global concern representing artists from Sarah McLachlan to Avril Lavigne and the Barenaked Ladies, believes yoga can benefit from the same philosophy he uses in the music business.

McBride may be on to something – so far he’s raised $6 million from angel investors for the yoga studio concept.

Hi Lisa, I asked YYoga for you, and this is what they had to say:

“Our location at W Broadway and Fir we’re calling South Granville (which is the closest to Kits so far) is slated to open later this year. Construction just started this week so it could be as early as summer and as late as fall.”
