Home Invasion in Kits

The Vancouver Sun reported yesterday that a 50-year-old man is facing criminal charges in connection with a frightening break-in at a Kitsilano basement suite where a young woman was threatened with a crowbar and kitchen knife. The incident occurred about 1pm Tuesday at a home in the 2300 block of West 13th Ave.

Police said a 23-year-old resident of a basement suite reported hearing noises upstairs, followed by a knock on her door. Thinking it was her landlord, the woman opened the door, only to find a stranger wielding a crowbar. The man pushed himself into the apartment, threatened her first with the crowbar, then with a knife he grabbed from her kitchen.

Police said the man grabbed a number of items from the home – including a purse and digital camera – before running away.

The woman immediately phoned police, who had a patrol car within blocks of the home. A suspect matching the woman’s description was arrested walking in a back alley near the scene, and the stolen property was recovered. The suspect has yet to be formally charged in the incident.
