Autumn Fair at Kitsilano Neighbourhood House

Growing up in the urban part of the Netherlands meant that I never really got to celebrate the end of harvest season the way one is supposed to. No turkey and cranberry sauce (at least not until Christmas), no pumpkin pie, no apple cider, no day off on the second Monday of October.

October was just another month, and typically not a great one at that. Here, however, it has quickly turned into one of my favourite months of the year. The changing colours, the crispness in the air, the daily changing view of English Bay, the first hint of snow on the North Shore mountains (seen last Friday on my bike ride to work), and of course, pumpkin pie.

It should come as no surprise then that on Saturday, October 20th, I can be found at the Autumn Fair at Kitsilano Neighbourhood House. The fair runs from 9am until 2pm and the program looks great:

Build a scarecrow, design a costume! Prizes for the best, most imaginative and most scary.

Other events include a pancake breakfast, pie eating contest, farmers market, face painting, carnival games, pumpkin patch, music, square dancing and much more….

And what better way to end the day than with a ‘Whole Hog’ dinner?
