Conflict at the Coinbox

I’ve ridden my fair share of buses downtown and come across this abusive busrider before – he’s an ass and I fully support the long haired bus driver.

I agree… the bus driver looks totally in the right to get angry at that dude.

You said you “support the long haired bus driver” and Walrus says the bus driver looks “totally in the right to get angry”.

I say it was fortunate that the rider did not further retaliate against the driver. This had the potential to escalate just like so many other incidents. Incidents of road rage have resulted in people getting beaten or killed. I’m not saying that would have happened here but those incidents all escalate from relatively minor issues also. The driver was obviously pissed off when the rider spat on him. But the video shows the driver out of control in his rage while the rider has since relaxed. The driver in his this aroused “fight or flight” condition should not have been getting behind the wheel of a 15 tonne vehicle and drively away. He’s not in control of his anger and isn’t in a condition that other passengers should be trusting their personal safety to him. Why did the other driver not stop the rider from getting on the second bus? Usually the union brethren stick together? Maybe ‘Brent?’ is known as a hothead and the other driver didn’t think it was worth it? He looks to suffer from IED (Intermittent Explosive Disorder) and therefore is clearly in the wrong line of work.

I do agree that it was not necessarily the best way to deal with it. Also, I agree that having an angry bus driver behind the wheel is a much more dangerous situation. That being said, the bus driver seemed to retain his cool after getting back in his bus… he answers the camera person somewhat rationally.

Sure, he didn’t act like a Jedi or the Dalai Lama, but I think a lot of people would have done worse things. What would most people do if someone walked into their work place and spat on them. Probably try to level them if they had the physique advantage that this guy had… he held back in my opinion.

I think the point about the other bus driver doing nothing is a very valid point. In my opinion, the best thing would have been for the bus drivers to ban the guy. It’s all instincts though so hard for them to react accordingly in an instant.

Also… I’ve seen way more angry bus drivers than this guy when not provoked. That being said, my experience with transit is usually pretty good.
